Braces at Focus Orthodontics

More Than Just a Perfect Smile

Dr Jong and patient talkingBraces are synonymous with helping people to achieve a picture-perfect smile, but their benefits go beyond aesthetics. By straightening the teeth, they help patients to bite, speak, and chew more effectively. Did you know that straighter teeth are also easier to brush and floss? All of these benefits add-up to healthier teeth and gums!

Braces to Suit Every Patient

At Focus Orthodontics, we offer a range of braces to help every patient achieve the smile of their dreams. Our options are made to suit every individual’s mouth, aesthetic choices, and budget. During your initial consultation, Dr Mun and our team are happy to answer any questions you may have about selecting the perfect type of braces for you.

Conventional Metal Braces

Conventional metal braces aren’t just the most common choice of braces (particularly among teenagers), but they’re also often the most affordable. Despite their not-so-popular history some decades ago, metal braces have come a long way. They are a lot lighter in weight and structure than they used to be!

The stainless-steel brackets are attached to the patient’s teeth using a type of cement and these are then linked to one another using a thin wire. This then guides the teeth to move into their ideal positions. The wire is connected to each tooth bracket using o-rings or ligatures and these simply resemble tiny elastics. One of the most fun aspects of conventional metal braces is being able to choose what colour elastics you’d like each month. Some patients like to get very creative!

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are very similar to conventional metal braces, with the most notable difference being that the brackets are made from a transparent ceramic material. This makes them less noticeable, offering a more premium solution to metal braces. Despite their more expensive cost when compared to conventional metal braces, ceramic braces have become a popular choice among adults who wish to be more discreet about their teeth-straightening treatment.

Lingual Braces

When it comes to being completely unnoticeable, however, lingual braces take the cake. While this treatment still uses metal brackets, they are placed on the inside of the teeth, making them 100% invisible when the patient smiles.

At Focus Orthodontics we use Incognito for our lingual braces, as it is the market-leading brand. This appliance also uses custom-made wires and brackets, ensuring that the patient isn’t just satisfied with the look of their lingual braces, but how they feel too.

Although lingual braces offer one of the most premium options of braces, the treatment time is still roughly the same as conventional metal braces, as we’re dedicated to ensuring the patient is left with results that last a lifetime.
